Carrie Davenport:

Biographical information-

What this artist does with a subject is a personal response and an exhilarating experience.  Exact representation has never been an absolute but instead, she lets a state of feeling determine the approach she wants to take.  She has exhibited her work in a variety of galleries, taught classes and workshops in oil painting, and her work can be seen in private and commercial collections.  She is currently showing at The Oakwood Art League Gallery in Seguin and The New Braunfels Art League Gallery, where she has been a recipient of numerous awards, both there and elsewhere.

Carrie’s story about her painting “In the Woods”-

I was visiting friends that lived up the mountain from Colorado Springs.  When I got up the first morning, I stepped out on their deck and this was the view that greeted me in one direction, Pikes Peak in another.  Awe-inspiring country.

Helen Stein:

Biographical information-

Helen Stein moved to Seguin in 1956.  She was a charter member of the Seguin Art League with Dr. Henry Moore and Dr. Elmer Peterson of Texas lutheran College.  She helped to organize the One Seguin art League and is now a member of the Seguin Oakwood Art League.  Helen studied art at Mary Hardin Baylor College and Texas Lutheran College under Dr. Peterson and received watercolor instruction from Mary Hetherington.  She has volunteered at Jefferson Elementary teaching art to third graders and has given private lessons in oil.  Along with painting, her hobbies include quilting.  Helen has a quilt displayed in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC.

Helen’s story about her painting-

In addition to suing a paintbrush, Helen crumbled plastic wrap into a ball and used it to apply some of the watercolor.

Dottie Bowden:

Biographical information-

Dottie Bowden started painting in 1970.  She had her first lessons under Faye Sitton of   Liberty, Texas.  Since that time, she had studied under such artists as  E. Frost Andrews, Dick Turner, Carol Gibson Sayle, and   Dalhart Windberg.  Dottie received her Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest Texas State University and her Master’s Degree from the same University.  She is a Charter Member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts and of the Deer Park Art League, as well as being a member of the Seguin Oakwood Art League and the San Antonio River Art Group.

Dottie’s story about her painting-

Dottie grew up in the City of Deer Park (Houston) area, and Deer Park, like Seguin, is a bird sanctuary.  Dottie has loved and painted coastal birds since her childhood.

Ann Leithead:

Biographical information-

I’m a native Texan who, by luck, lived in many places-and finally found the ideal home in Seguin.  Since my approach to art is “I wonder what would happen if…” I can rarely replicate what I have produced.  Sometimes that makes me sad.  My three children enjoy art and share that joy with their children and with my husband and me.  Some of our happiest times are when we are creating things together.  I have enjoyed learning how to do many, many things, but for the last few years clay and especially Raku has been what I have found fascinating.
